How does Generic Diflucan work?
Generic Diflucan works by preventing an infection caused by fungus in patients with a weakened immune system,
due to procedures such as cancer treatment and bone marrow transplants,
or a disease which take its toll on the body's immune system, such as HIV or AIDS.
The usual infections which Diflucan treats include yeast infections of the vagina, the throat,
esophagus, and the mouth; infections of the urinary tract caused by fungi; pneumonia which is caused by yeast; and infections caused by fungi through the entire body.
How to take Generic Diflucan.
Generic Diflucan is a drug commonly available in tablet form, and in 50mg, 100mg, 150mg, 200mg dosage strengths; in liquid form,
through 10mg/ml and 40mg/ml concentrated strengths. Intake of Diflucan must be done under the strict prescriptions of a qualified doctor.
Usually, a single dose of the drug is enough in the treatment for vaginal yeast infection; in cases of multiple-dose therapies,
the first intake is usually a double dose, in order to diffuse the potency of the drug quickly into the body.
The suspension liquid must be shaken well before the dose is measured out and administered.
The tablets are taken with or without previous intake of food, and with a tall glass of water if necessary.
Side Effects.
In the presence of the following adverse effects, immediately discontinue intake, and seek medical help:
- an allergic reaction.
- rash.
- liver damage as evidenced by jaundice, dark urine, abdominal pain, and excessive fatigue.
If the following common effects are experienced, continue intake of Diflucan and consult with a physician:
- itching.
- nausea and vomiting, accompanied by abdominal pain.
- fatigue.
- diarrhea.
- headache.
- dizziness.
Precautions and Interactions.
Diflucan should not be taken if the patient is also using cisapride for treatment.
A combined use of the two drugs may lead to serious, or even fatal, heart disorders.
Patients who are considering intake of Diflucan should also notify their physician beforehand
if they have any other health conditions, particularly kidney problems, or if they are currently under other medication treatments.
They may be discouraged from taking the drug, or may need an adjustment in dose for safe intake.
Pregnant women and those who are breastfeeding should also do likewise, as the medication may have an effect on the conceived or breastfed child.
Missed Dose.
Take a missed dose as soon as necessary, under the condition that the next intake is far from due.
Otherwise, proceed and follow the intake schedule and skip the missed dose.
Overdose.
Seek medical help if the following indications of overdose are experienced:
decreased movement or breathing, confusion, incontinence, drooling, and hallucinations.
Storage.
Store Generic Diflucan in normal room temperatures, away from direct heat and light; this is particularly advised in storing the liquid form of the drug.
